How to sign a PDF
- Draw your signature on the pad above with a mouse or your finger. Pick black or blue ink, and hit Clear to try again if it does not look right.
- Upload the PDF and a page preview appears. Use the ◀ ▶ buttons to reach the page that needs signing.
- Click the exact spot where the signature belongs — a translucent preview of your signature appears there. Adjust the size slider, or click somewhere else to reposition.
- Press Insert signature & save PDF and a signed copy downloads. Your original file stays untouched.
Being honest about what this signature is
This tool does one thing: it inserts an image of your handwritten signature into a PDF. It is not a certificate-based digital signature — it adds no cryptographic signature value and does not prove the document was unmodified. If legal signature validity is what your contract requires, use a qualified e-signature service instead.
So when is it the right tool? Most paperwork that crosses your inbox only needs a "please sign and send it back." Instead of printing, signing with a pen, and scanning the sheet again, you draw your signature once here and reply in seconds — no printer, no scanner, no app to install.
Why this tool?
Most online PDF signing services upload your document to their servers for processing, and many gate the feature behind an account or a daily usage cap. Documents that need a signature — contracts, consent forms, HR paperwork — are usually exactly the ones you least want floating around on a third-party server.
ThisIsMyPDF signs your document using technology built into your browser. The file never leaves your device, so there is nothing to leak; there is no upload wait, so even long documents finish in seconds; and since we pay for no processing servers, there are no usage caps, no size limits, and no watermarks. No login either.
When to use it
- Signing a contract received by email and sending it straight back — no print-and-scan round trip
- Adding a confirmation signature to a quote or purchase order from a client
- Signing a parental consent form or school permission slip and returning it the same evening
- Freelance work confirmations and simple HR paperwork — anywhere a plain signature is all that is asked
Tips for a better signature
On mobile, draw with your finger — it produces a far more natural signature than a mouse. Open this page on your phone, sign the pad, and continue right there; the pad shrinks to fit your screen without losing stroke quality. Start with the default size of 20% of the page width and fine-tune it with the slider to match the signature box in your document. Blue ink can make a scanned form look convincingly "signed on paper".
Pages that were scanned sideways and carry rotation metadata are not officially supported yet (v1). If the warning appears, fix the orientation first with the ⟳ rotate button in Delete & Reorder Pages, save, and sign that file instead. Need to send several signed documents as one file? Finish with Merge PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF and signature really never uploaded?
Correct. Drawing your signature, previewing the PDF, placing, and saving all happen entirely inside your browser. Open your browser network tab and you will see no upload requests. A handwritten signature is sensitive personal data — the safest place for it is your own device, and that is exactly where it stays.
Is this a legally binding electronic signature?
No. This tool inserts an image of your handwritten signature into the document. It is not a certificate-based digital signature and does not add a cryptographic signature value. For contracts where legal signature validity matters, use a qualified e-signature service. It is well suited for everyday sign-and-return workflows where both sides agree a signature image is enough.
I placed the signature in the wrong spot. Can I move it?
Yes. Just click a different spot on the preview and the signature moves there. You can also adjust the size slider at any time, and reposition as often as you like before saving. Your original file is never modified, so you can always start over.
Can I sign more than one page?
Each save inserts the signature at one position. To sign several places, download the signed file, load it again, and repeat. Your drawn signature stays on the pad while you flip pages or load a new file, so you only need to click the next position.
Does it work on rotated (sideways-scanned) PDFs?
Pages that carry rotation metadata are not officially supported yet (v1). A warning appears when you view such a page; you can still proceed, but the signature may land slightly off, so check the saved result. We recommend fixing the rotation first with our page organizer tool, then signing.
